Wichita Home Remodeling Experts: Best Carpet for Your Bedroom
Want the best carpet for your bedroom? Carpeting can range from thick and comfy underfoot to a thin, low-pile carpet. You want to select a carpet that’s comfortable, fashionable, and functional. Consider the carpet height, pile, color, and texture.
Use these tips to help you find the right carpeting. Your carpeting can increase your home’s value and increase your curb appeal.
Why Choose Carpet for Your Bedroom Remodeling Project?
Your bedroom is where you relax and sleep. And, it’s where you unwind at the end of the day. That’s why your carpeting is important.
Consider use and functionality first:
Best Carpeting for Pets and Kids
If you have young children and pets, you might want a stain-resistant, low-pile carpet. Try Nylon Frieze. It handles foot traffic well and 100% nylon frieze carpet can last for 15 years. The stain-resistant barrier makes it easy to clean and it can handle little feet, and furry paws.
Tip: Berber styles are not recommended if you have kids and pets. Olefin fibers tend to retain oil and dirt.
Best Carpeting for Seniors
A low-pile carpeting that’s 1/2 inch or less is best for seniors:
- It gives added traction underfoot.
- It’s better with walkers and wheelchairs.
- It’s easy to clean and won’t accumulate dirt, dander, or hair in the fibers.
Area rugs are not recommended for seniors. The rugs can slide underfoot or cause a person to trip.
Best Carpeting for Allergy Sufferers
For homes where someone has allergies, install a low-pile carpet. Select from olefin, nylon, polyester, or synthetic carpets. These types of carpets can block dirt and dander from getting into the fibers. There are fewer pollutants to trigger allergies.
Best Carpeting for Comfort
Carpeting in the bedroom is comfortable underfoot. When you get in and out of the bed, you won’t have a cold floor to step on. And, you don’t have to worry about looking for your slippers!
- Consider a shag rug that’s thick underfoot.
- If you don’t want wall-to-wall carpet, add a large area rug.
- A Berber rug is popular. It shows well and can increase your home’s value with resale.
Next, look at color and design.

Pile Types
Carpet pile types include textured, Saxony, frieze, and velvet. These are cut piles that use loops in the fibers. Velvet is plusher. It’s cut several times for a luxurious texture.
Saxony and frieze are twisted tightly and almost bent. But Saxony stands up because the pile has been heat-treated. Textured carpeting is popular. It has a crimped style for a multi-color effect.
Pile Height & Density
Rug piles are the density of the fibers in the rug. Flat rugs have shorter densities. Shaggy rugs are longer. But, not always better quality. Some shorter rugs are thin and richer in texture and may last longer.
When you shop for rugs, pile height can vary:
- Low pile is less than 1/4 inch.
- A medium pile is 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch.
- Plush pile is 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch.
- Shag rugs can be longer than these.
Materials
Carpet materials include nylon, wool, olefin, polyester, soft nylon, and smart strand. In terms of “best” or “worst”, they vary.
All of the carpets are stain resistant but wool is the most expensive. Wool mildews and molds in wet conditions. Soft nylon is stain resistant but more expensive. Smartstrand and nylon are stain-resistant, durable, and handle well in humid conditions. But, they’re more expensive. Olefin and polyester aren’t easy to clean and they aren’t durable.
